It finally happened! After a year of planning, booking, shopping, designing and sewing, the wedding finally took place. And what a wedding it was!
On September 6th, 2014, I married the man of my dreams. Erik and I were wed in a beautiful outdoor ceremony that took place on the lawn of the Judicial Building in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. The ceremony was a gorgeous Art Deco affair with gold and ivory color scheme accented by oranges and greens. The weather could not have been better and the view was amazing!
I personally designed and created my wedding dress and veil, all of the bridesmaid dresses, both dresses for the moms, as well as the vest and ties for the groomsmen. I even did matching ties for the dads so they matched the moms! We reversed the traditional way of thinking about the colors, and decided that we wanted to be in color, and everyone else in ivory. The end result was an elegant and trendy twist on the traditional. I am so pleased with how it all came together and everyone just looked stunning!
A reception followed with a formal plated dinner, traditional tiered cake, and dancing that lasted all night long! The reception was hosted at Exile Brewing Co., also downtown. Their atmosphere was exactly what we wanted and fit into our theme perfectly. The only decoration required was some table centerpieces and a few photos scattered around the room. Exile's own 'prohibition' vibe was enough on its own that we felt no need to detract from that with over-the-top decor.
We could not have asked for a better day all around, and we are so appreciative of everything our friends and family did to help us put on such a fabulous event! The food was fantastic, the drinks were never ending, the company was very much enjoyed. I'm so grateful to my parents and to my in-laws for raising us and for throwing us this amazing party. Also to my friends who were so instrumental (and life-saving) in helping get everything done and together and making everything run so smoothly! I truly am a lucky girl!
